Health and Safety Policy and Procedures

Family Dental Care takes all reasonable steps to ensure the practice is safe for team members, patients, and visitors. The practice manager, Kat Biro is responsible for all health and safety matters, but team members also share in this responsibility.

In particular, we ensure that:

  • All team members are aware of our policies and trained to follow our protocols.
  • Equipment is suitable for purpose and that it is installed, maintained and used correctly.
  • The risk of injuries occurring from equipment and substances used within the practice is minimised.
  • Entrances and exits are clear and maintained.

Team members should not interfere with or misuse any equipment, appliance or substance which may result in injury to themselves or others, must take reasonable care of their own and other people’s welfare and follow the practice’s health and safety protocols.

Team members are provided with the training necessary to carry out their work safely.  If you are unsure of how to perform a certain task or feel it would be dangerous to carry out a specific job, inform Kat Biro. Similarly, if you are aware of a situation that could pose a threat to the wellbeing of another person, inform Kat Biro (see whistle-blowing policy).  An effective health and safety programme requires good communication between all members of the practice.

To comply with the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases, and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (2013), all injuries, suspected work-related ill health and near miss incidents must be reported to Kat Biro and entered in the accident book, which is kept at reception.

Failure by team members to comply with health and safety obligations may result in disciplinary action including, in serious cases, dismissal for a breach of contract.

We are insured against liability for death or personal injury suffered by any team member as a result of negligence or a breach of statutory duty.  A copy of the certificate of insurance is displayed in the practice at reception.

If you have any questions about this policy, you should speak with Kat Biro.

This Policy was reviewed and implemented on 21/05/2019.

This policy and relevant procedures will be reviewed annually and are due for review on 21/05/2020 or prior to this date in accordance with new guidance or legislative changes.
